Ever wondered how the ancient masters did their almost photo-realistic paintings? It seems some of the masters were very much aware of the technology availabe to them in their time. One such piece of technology was the Camera Lucida – enabling the artist to mirror the object onto the canvas for close tracing.
University art professors and new-media artists Pablo Garcia and Golan Levin set out to create a Camera Lucida for the 21st century – the NeoLucida (shown below). Their Kickstarter project sold out in a matter of days. I really wanted to get my hands on one these NeoLucida, but will have to wait for it to go into a larger production scale.
